Senior Pat Ryan's layup with five seconds left sinks Edgewater, 56-55
Men's Basketball clips Edgewater
Patrick Ryan's layup with five seconds left in the game gave Men's Basketball their first lead since the second quarter and it was just enough to defeat Edgewater, 56-55, in a thrilling Metro Conference matchup. Damani Cade had the hot hand for the Panthers, draining 25 points to key the DP offense which was uncharacteristically stagnant. DP (16-3) held a 17-16 lead after the first quarter and went into the half tied at 29-29. Edgewater (18-2) came out hot in the third with an 8-0 run and held a 43-36 advantage before Kerby Lubin's tip-in at the buzzer energized the team as well as the crowd. DP chipped away at the lead in the fourth, cutting it to four, 53-49, with 1:38 left. After Edgewater hit another bucket to make it 55-49, Damani Cade nailed a huge three from the top of the key to halve the lead. An Edgewater turnover gave way to another Kerby Lubin layup and the Panthers trailed by just one, 54-53, before Ryan's game-winning layup with five ticks left. Edgewater had one final chance but they couldn't get the ball across the halfcourt as time expired. A huge win for Dr. Phillips against another top-ten ranked opponent. They'll travel to top-ranked Miami Dr. Krop tomorrow night as their murderous schedule continues.
