Women's Basketball (28-1) put the painful memory of the district finals behind them as they overpowered Vero Beach 59-34 on the road Thursday night in the region quarterfinals of the state tournament. The Panthers came off the bus firing 3's as they took an early 18-7 lead. The second quarter proved to be no different as freshmen Alexis Brown and Hannah Schaible continued to light it up from behind the arc as DP went on a 15-8 and went into the locker room up 33-15 at half. In the 3rd quarter the Panthers full court press along with the outside shooting of Brown and Schaible put the game out of reach for the Indians as DP cruised in the convincing victory. Guard Alexis Brown had four 3 pointers and finished with a game high 21 points. Schaible finished with 19 points and five steals and freshmen Sydnei McCaskill had 9 points and a game high 10 assists. Senior forward Brittany Marshall was a force on the boards with 7 rebounds and a dominating presence in the paint.
With the win DP gets it's much anticipated rematch with Apopka next Tuesday night on the road starting at 7 pm. Apopka beat the previously undefeated Panthers 41-37 in the district finals last Saturday night.
