Sydnei McCaskill scored 18 points and went 10-12 from the free throw line while Hannah Schaible (15 points, five steals, 8-10 FT) and Alexis Brown (12 points, five assists, six steals) followed suit with strong performances as Women’s Basketball knocked out host Apopka, 47-41, in the Regional Semifinal. DP (29-1) found success early by driving to the basket, a missing ingredient in their lone defeat one week ago. After trailing by one, 9-8, the Panthers went on a 12-5 second quarter run to take a 20-14 halftime lead. The lead stretched to as many as 16 points in the second half but Apopka wouldn’t go down easily. After two quick threes and a layup, the Blue Darters closed the margin to just three points but DP nailed 18 of 22 free throws overall, mostly in the fourth quarter, to secure the victory and advance to the Regional Championship. The Panthers will travel to play the St. Petersburg Green Devils Saturday at 7:00 PM with the winner advancing to the State Final Four in Lakeland next Friday.
